Character Name: Cordelia Chase
Series: Angel the Series (also Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Age: 22
From When?: Episode 5X12 of Angel, "You're Welcome."

Inmate/Warden: Warden. Cordelia is a strong, assertive individual who takes crap from no one. She has several years of experience helping someone on the path toward redemption, and she puts her entire heart and soul into doing so. She also tends to go come from the tough love school of helping. She's not going to help anyone indulge in self-pity.

Item: A necklace that Angel gave her as a present.

Abilities/Powers: Cordelia is technically part demon, though her powers weren't ever fully explored in canon. We saw hints of things -- that she can wipe out evil with bright white light, and she can also levitate, though she never learned how to control said abilities. Her major power is that she gets visions from the Powers That Be that warn her when people are in trouble and need help. As far as normal abilities go, she's smart, and she's gotten to be a pretty decent fighter. She's naturally athletic thanks to cheerleading, and she's proficient with crossbows as well as swords.

Personality: Cordelia is a walking contradiction. She can be both the nastiest, meanest person you've ever met in your life if you get on her bad side, or if you're someone she loves and cares about, she can and will do whatever she can to look after and protect you--even if she mocks the shoes you're wearing at the time. She has moments where she's terrified and will retreat as fast as possible, but she's also tough as nails when she has to be. She will face down any kind of being she has to in the moment -- an evil redneck vampire trying to kill her, a demonic man who likes to have other people harm women, and even debatebly evil lawyers like Lindsey McDonald. But she knows when she's out-manned, or without backup, and she knows when running away is the better option.

Although in high school she was often perceived as shallow, she's much smarter than most people give her credit for, and she's incredibly intuitive. For a long time, Cordelia was incredibly self-absorbed, not looking beyond her own life and her own wants and needs, but she's done a great deal of growing up over the years, largely in part due to the visions that her friend Doyle passed onto her with a kiss when he died. She's become a very compassionate person, even if her tongue is still a weapon. She's also a bit obsessed with fashion, even if she's not nearly as bad as she used to be about it. She does tend to speak her mind, and she's not usually very tactful about it, because after all, tact to her is just not saying true stuff.

Her big mouth can be a definite weakness. It's gotten her into trouble a lot over the years. She just can't seem to let someone else have the last word, and sometimes when she doesn't even mean to say something, it happens anyway. She's well known for having a serious lack of tact -- a trait she grew up having and never completely got rid of. Her glib, flippant nature can sometimes make it hard for people to get close to her.

She loves money, which can also be a serious problem. She grew up surrounded by it and then her dad lost everything and she was poor. It's been a serious struggle for her to learn how to deal with this. If someone owed Angel Investigations money, she didn't hesitate to go out and collect -- even if it isn't always safe for her to do so.

Cordelia's desire to make a difference is also sometimes a weakness. She's sacrificed a lot in order to help other people, including her own health. She'd been to numerous doctors and had medical tests run, and was taking multiple prescription drugs due to the pain from the visions she was getting, but she didn't tell anyone. She didn't believe there was any viable solution that wouldn't get rid of her visions, and she didn't want to be rid of the visions because it was her main way of helping people. She even accepted a deal to become part demon in order to live and keep the visions -- all without knowing any of the possible consequences.

Accepting that deal caused a spiral of terrible things, because it turned out the Demon Guide she made the deal with wasn't really working with the Powers That Be. She wound up possessed by an evil goddess who used her body to give birth to itself and then try to end the world. Afterwards, she was in a coma until a powerful vision about Angel being in trouble woke her up. She still never regretted the decisions she made, even if things didn't end well for her, because those decisions allowed her to save people and help her friends.

Barge Reactions: Considering she was born and raised on the mouth of hell (literally), Cordelia isn't going to be surprised by much of anything the Barge has to offer. She'll be semi-wary of most supernatural types due to personal experiences, but she's also well-aware that just because someone is a vampire or a werewolf or even a demon, they're not necessarily evil. Superheroes (and super villains) being real might make her arch an eyebrow, but she'll roll with that. She's dealt with more than her fair share of the weird and unexpected, so while she won't be thrilled about a lot of the floods and breaches that might occur, she'll handle it with her usual amount of wit, sarcasm, and courage. She's not been on the Barge before.

Deal: Rather than "ascending" again, Cordelia was approached by the Admiral -- and she took him up on it in exchange for another shot at helping Angel in the future when he needs it.

History: Character History.

Sample Journal Entry:

[Video feed clicks on and you can see Cordelia perched at the end of her bed, legs folded in front of her. She's just arrived on the Barge, and she's talked to a couple of people and discovered things happening right now aren't exactly normal. Which she's pretty relieved about.]

So let me get this straight.

[She ticks off her points on her fingers as she speaks.]

There's some kind of flood going on and not everyone is themselves. We have no idea when the effects are going to be reversed. Is there some kind of big list of who's affected and who's not? Because that'd be helpful, especially for a new person like me.

[And of course now is the time she'd arrive on the Barge. Good thing she's got some experience with general chaos.]

I'm Cordelia, and I'm from Sunnydale, California. Or...most recently Los Angeles, I guess, but originally from Sunnydale. Which apparently no longer even exists unless you count a giant crater as a town. But...that's not why I'm here. I'm here to help. So if you need someone to kick your butt into gear, I'm your girl.

Sample RP:

Somehow she never anticipated ending up on a prison barge flying through space. Then again, she'd never seen Pylea coming either. Or falling for Angel. Or nearly ending the world. For someone used to getting visions from The Powers That Be, it was actually pretty damned ironic, really. She knew it was worth it though. Because for as much as she admired and respected Angel, she knew eventually he was going to need help again.

She could have been selfish in this case. If he'd had a clue, Angel would have no doubt encouraged her to be selfish. To use this deal with the Admiral to give herself another shot at life. She could still help him, could still guide him while being literally at his side. The problem with that was...she didn't trust the Powers anymore. Not with the day to day stuff. Not when it came to using her against Angel and Wesley and the others. And when it came right down to it, she didn't trust herself with Angel on a day to day basis anymore, either.

The Admiral wasn't exactly someone she felt she could trust, but it seemed like the lesser of two evils. She didn't buy into that better the devil you know crap. She'd known way too many devils in her short life, and the bad ones tended to be pretty damned bad. So she made a deal with an unknown entity and now she was standing on the ship's deck, staring at the stars all around in something akin to amazement.

"Well. Hopefully this isn't another fine mess you've gotten yourself into, Cordy," she muttered.
